Thank you Bobby Lou

As I made a nice big batch of lasagne last night, I flipped through the TV channels, trying to figure out what to watch. I stumbled upon the Oilers-Canucks game and decided, hell, why not watch? How bad can it be? It was bad... I thought the Oilers might win.

While I don't support giving up, I do support getting a high draft pick. The plethora of injuries means that we've started bringing up players from the QMJHL. Junior players! Junior players who aren't the next Sidney Crosby. We don't deserve to win. But give the kids playing time, by all means!

I live in Vancouver and am scared of the playoff run the Canucks might make this year. Canucks fans have been unbearable in my two years in the lower mainland. If it weren't for the fans, I could probably get behind this team. They've made some good moves, they play hard and have overachieved without becoming a favorite. The play of Roberto Luongo, despite his lack of a playoff record, makes me wonder if Vancouver was only a goaltender graveyard because they never had a bonafide starter.

The Vancouver I saw last night underperformed in a way reminscent of the Oilers down the stretch last year. They had already convinced me they deserved to be in the playoffs, but struggled against bottom feeders. But when your best player is your goaltender, teams beware.

A hot goaltender can take a team a long way in the post season. Last night's version of the canucks didn't have a team that scared me. It had a goaltender that was positionally remarkable, perfectly timed and just a bit lucky. While they can't win every game 2-1... they only have to win four each series...

Wake me up when the riots are over.

And Raffi thinks he can get the ladies...

geez I honestly really enjoy reading your blog, but you've resorted to posting about Roberto Luongo?!! disappointed hot oil..extremely disappointed. Not even the stud Schremp picture could make up for it.

At least it seems unlikely Raffi and Schrempie will be competing for the same ladies...

Loxy, I too live in Vancouver and despise Canuck fans. What r your reasons though? If you did a post on that, I would gladly follow up with a thirty page thesis in the comment section to add to it.

With Luongo's help, they always seem to do just enough to beat you. I'm curious to see if that will be enough in the playoffs. For the sake of hockey and really all the world, I hope it isn't.
Thanks for the link!

What's hot about the Oil these days?

The fact that Brodziak is apparently staying in the big leagues for a bit longer.

Sometimes Rob Schremp just makes me feel sad...

I'm a Nuck fan (diehard) and personally I dont care whether you like us or not. I'm stoked about a playoff run, and truthfully we deserve one. We maybe got a little too excited over the last few years with our teams, but with the Hockey News and TSN pickin us as Stanley cup contenders or finalists, who could blame us. Anyways, all is right in the hockey world again. The Oilers are out of the playoffs, the Flames are fightin for 8th and we are being talked about as cup contenders. So learn to live with us :)

Gawd, I hate Canucks fans too.
They are almost as bad as Lames fans.

Honestly, I think some of them are closet Oilers fans; walking around in their LOSERS t-shirts that look like the OILERS logo.

How original. *roll-eyes*.

Sebastien Bisaillon.

I don't know why.

He just is.

Bisaillon? More like Bis-ehhh!-on! Bis-turnsme-on! I'd like to take a foreur into his Val d'Or, if you know what I mean. I'd like to play the point on his man advantage, if you know what I mean. I'd like to try and convert him into a no-offense grinder before trading him to the Eastern Conference for some Russian whereupon he promptly averages a point per game, if you know what I mean NO I'M NOT BITTER.

I posted about Canucks fans just yesterday: http://sarahevekelly.blogspot.com/2007/03/beating-of-its-wings.html

Lots of uncharacteristic bloodlust to work out, I have to say.

Thanks for the link. :)

It's funny, most of my friends out here are not from Vancouver. I flock to Prairie kids.

I know this is totally off-topic, but is it just me or does Slava Trukhno (a junior prospect) look a lot like John Madden?

Canucks fans are like gophers. They pop out of their holes in spring, sniff the air and either duck back underground or, if the weather's right, run around making annoying yipping sounds until they get bored. And, like gophers, the best way to deal with them is to hit them with a shovel.

Hey look, I just saw one! And whaddaya know: they're anonymous!

All is right in the world again eh? Just like a few years ago? So I guess that means the Canucks will choke and bow out in the first round again?
